BETHLEHEM. – Free State Stars narrowly escaped the Absa Premier League relegation last season. The players showed up when it mattered most, winning five games and drawing one in the last six games of the season.

Now the management of the team feels that it is that time of the year again when the individual who has contributed most to the survival of the team should be rewarded.

Ea Lla Koto, as it is affectionately known, will host their 2014-’15 season Gala Dinner and Award ceremony tomorrow (22/07) at the Ballroom, Wanderers Club in Johannesburg at 19:00.

During the ceremony Stars are expected to announce their new players and those who have been released.

At the moment an obvious award is the Top Goal Scorer that will be handed over to Moeketsi Sekola who, it is rumoured, will move to Orlando Pirates.

That would be his second Golden Boot after he scooped the Absa Premier Soccer League during their recent awards ceremony.

Other awards will be Player of the season, most improved player of the season, rookie of the year and the chairman’s awards.

It remains to be seen if the Goalkeeper of the season award will be presented this season after it was scrapped last season.

It will also be interesting to see who will win it since the team has been changing goalkeepers throughout the season.

It is no secret that the four goalkeepers, Ayanda Mtsali, Dauda Diakite, Jakie Mathole and Clem Verbauwhede – have conceded 35 goals among them
