SECHABA MTHOMBENI, a 16-year-old gr. 10 learner of the Bodibeng Secondary School in Kroonstad, is one of the contestants in the third season of the inspirational reality television show Future Leaders.

Despite being orphaned at 11 months, Sechaba decided to make something of his life and not let his circumstances define him.

The outspoken young man started a choir in his community as a way to keep youngsters off the streets.

After being launched on Sunday (16/08), Future Leaders will air every Sunday for the next 12 weeks on SABC 1 at 17:30.

The TV show is facilitated by South African media personality and author Eusebius Mackaizer and panellists included First Lady Bongi Ngema-Zuma, as well as director of Operations for the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Nthuseng Mpahlele, SAB executive director: Corporate Affairs and Transformation, Monwabisi Fandeso, and Sizwe Dhlomo, South African television personality and youth activist.

Each contestant is assigned a mentor and these mentors are all local personalities who are passionate about youth-related issues and are role models in society.

Sechaba’s mentor is Dikeledi Makhongoana of Lesedi FM
