2015-10-07 06:00

THE Mangaung Rose Festival will be presented again this year. This year it will celebrate Bloemfontein as the City of Roses for the 39th time.

As in the past, various shopping malls are playing a big role in making the public aware of the City of Roses brand.

This year additional activities, aimed at bringing more tourists to Bloemfontein, will be added to the programme.

The festival will officially be opened by Mayor Thabo Manyoni on Friday, 23 October, at 13:00 at the Loch Logan Waterfront.

After that, Ludwig Taschner of Ludwig’s Roses will have a talk about roses and their water needs.

Several pageants are run in preparation for the festival of which Oupa Roos and Ouma Roos are crowned on Tuesday, 13 October. The crowning of Miss Bloemfontein Roos takes place at the Fleurdal Mall on Friday, 16 October.

Miss Roosknoppie, and Miss and Mr Petals and Thorns will be crowned during the festival weekend.

The top gardens will once again be open for public viewing where visitors can buy a ticket to go on a bus tour (R150 per person) or make use of their own transport.

Viewing times on Friday, 23 October, are from 14:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday, 24 October, from 08:00 to 18:00.

Details of the different tours are available on the website.

Individual gardens will be listed in the programme. Programmes will be available at participating garden centres and shopping malls.

On Sunday, 25 October, the festival will officially close at 15:00 at the Free State Botanical Gardens and people can join the teddy bear picnic at this venue.
