Four to face court

2015-09-02 06:00

THE four men arrested in connection with the murder at the Tikwana Secondary School in Hoopstad are expected to apply for bail in the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (03/08).

The four suspects are Thembinkosi Nomana (19), Matshediso Motingoe (21), Joel Montewa (44) and his son Pheello Montewa (19).

They appeared in court on Friday (28/08) after their arrest in different towns following an intensive investigation regarding the murder of the 26-year-old teacher James Moeketsi Sekhonyane.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng, Welkom police spokesperson, said Sekhonyane’s body had been found on Monday, 24 August, under a bridge between Hoopstad and Bothaville. He said the victim had two gunshot wounds to the head. Thakeng said the teacher had been reported missing on Sunday, 23 August. On the same day Sekhonyane’s car, a white Polo Vivo, was found abandoned and burnt in Viljoenskroon.

Thakeng said blood stains had been found on the back of the vehicle. He said a joint operation had been conducted by members of the Welkom Public Order Police and Hoopstad Detectives, culminating in the arrests.

Two suspects were arrested in the Tikwane Township of Hoopstad, the third was busted at the Dooringhoek farm and the fourth in Phase 2 in Bloemfontein.

Thakeng said the police had seized a revolver with 21 rounds and a safe where an unlicenced firearm, presumably the murder weapon, had been kept
