THE Down Touch Griffons’ loss to on-form Leopards in their Absa Currie Cup qualifier played in Welkom on Saturday (11/07) blew the hosts’ chances of qualifying for the competition’s play-offs. The Welkom-side went down 24-20.

The negative result leaves the Griffons with one win, 25-21 against SWD Eagles. The home-side is still searching for a second win in the qualifying round. The Griffons’ losing streak further blows the home lads’ chances to make it into the qualifier of this prestigious tournament.

The Griffons are the current champions of the First Division and are under immense pressure to successfully defend the trophy they won last year. The Griffons can only redeem themselves in Saturday’s fixture against the Bulldogs. The match – which will be the last at home for the Griffons – will be played in the Welkom Stadium. The kickoff is scheduled for 15:00. The local lads will wrap-up their campaign against the Falcons on 25 July
