THE Free State Boxing Organisation, (FSBO) catering for boxers in the amateur ranks, received a wide range of equipment and accessories.

The donation was made by the mother-body, the South African National Boxing Organisation (Sanbo).

These sports items, valued at R195 000, were presented recently to the provincial federation by Mohato Hlasoa, Sanbo’s treasurer.

The range of sports items are meant to advance the development and nurturing of prospective athletes that will represent South Africa internationally in the future.

The equipment include skipping ropes, boxing gloves, punching bags, speed balls, bandages, gum-shields, head guards, boxing pads and electronic scales.

Fusi Hlasoa, FSBO secretary general, said the items were of good quality and met the prescriptions of the international amateur boxing federation, the International Boxing Association for Amateurs (AIBA).

He said the equipment would boost the local federation’s grassroots development programmes, establishing more boxing clubs.

“We want to grow the sport and we are targeting rural areas and schools,” said Hlasoa.

The donation came at the right time when the provincial federation is prepa-ring fighters, both boys and girls (aged 12 to 14) for this year’s national championship in October.

The event is initially scheduled to be staged in Bethlehem
