THE Ntshali family of Bloemanda, just outside Bloemfontein, is heartbroken after the entire gravestone of their father and grandfather Mbulelo “Bra slow” Ntshali was stolen.

The tombstone was stolen from the Memoriam Cemetery in the Generaal De Wet area.

According to Baesi Ramodula, sister-in-law of the deceased, the tombstone was erected immediately on the day he was buried in April 2012.

“Whoever has bought the tombstone must know that it has probably been stolen because this specific series had been discontinued about three years ago,” Ramodula told Express.

Yolanda Durings, an administration officer at Procor Memorials who manufactured the tombstone, confirmed to Express that, although they still made the same type of stone, the Ntshali family’s specific colour had been discontinued about three years ago.

Ramodula said the family had been left devastated by the whole incident.

She said what was particularly painful was that when they had visited the grave during the Easter weekend they had found that the headstone and flat top were missing.

“They must have been watching us, because in the 20 minutes or so that we went to the Park Road Police Station to open a case and come back with the police, the rest of the tombstone’s side beams had also been stolen.”

She said since then it had felt like they were burying their loved one all over again.

“These people don’t respect the dead. Why can’t they leave the dead alone?” she asked.
