THE South African Institute for Advancement (Saia) is urging the public to nominate people for this year’s Inyathelo Philanthropy Awards. The initiative aims at acknowledging and honouring those whose personal efforts have contributed towards sustainable social change in South Africa.

The Inyathelo Philanthropy Awards have been presented for the past nine years. Nominees should be people who distinguish themselves in serving South Africa through life-changing initiatives. Members of the public are free to nominate candidates of their choice.

The closing date for nominations is 1 July with the presentation of the awards function set for November in Cape Town.

Previous recipients include founding directors of the Adonis Musati Project for refugees, Gayle McWalter and Gahlia Brogneri; ten-year-old rhino campaigner Afeefah Patel; Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu; co-founder of the Spread Luv Movement, Kgomotso Mokoena; the Ackerman family; director of the Hlumelelisa organisation for convicted offenders, Paul Bruns; champion of orphans and vulnerable children, Mohamed Fayaz Khan; as well as founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies, Charles Feeney, for his contribution to promote social justice, better health care and human rights in the country.

Fill in the nomination form at www.philanthropy.org.za or contact Inyathelo on 021-465-6981 or awards@inyathelo.org.za
