Party responds to overreaction

2015-10-14 06:00

REV. THEUNIS BOTHA, leader of the Christian Demograpgic Party (CDP)

DIANNE KOHLER BARNARD, who has described herself as a ‘blond idiot’ has highlighted the fact that in the DA one dare not support comments, no matter how true they may be, that deviate from the politically correct stance of the party, no matter how false they may be.

The cardinal sin she committed was to share a Facebook comment, responding to the suspension of Johan Booysen as head of the Hawks over a typing error that said PW Botha was more honest than any of these ANC rogues and that he provided far better services to the public.

One of the most vexing problems we have in South Africa is how to deal with criticism, especially when it comes to colour. The latest debacle around Kohler Barnard shouldn’t even have been an issue.

Firstly, the problem isn’t necessarily with those who responded, because just as she has a right to her opinion just so the responders have the right to their opinions.

This should be a basic human right. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case, as the media, the party leaders of the DA are blowing this incident way out of proportion and are actually interfering where it would have been best to leave well alone.

With an immediate reaction from Mmusi Maimane demoting her and calling for a disciplinary hearing against her, Kohler Barnard, who has been a faithful servant to her party for so many years, is suddenly left out to dry.

This certainly does not appear to show loyalty from the party leadership’s side.

In a sick society, where all the ills of the present are blamed on the past and where people are prohibited from mentioning any of the positive things that happened under apartheid, this is of course to be expected.

As Christians, our advice to Maimane, who himself claims to be a Christian, is that, as Christians, we set our standards according to the Word of God and not according to the secular humanist standards of the day.

This of course will be totally unacceptable to those controlling the DA as it would mean that questions such as the death penalty, abortion, opposition to same-sex marriage, spanking of children, and many others would have to be re-considered.

As a nation we appear to have lost our moral compass and to have rejected our Christian values.

Christianity was and still is the majority religion in the country.

Should the liberal humanists have their way, Christianity would disappear and be replaced with atheism and a total rejection of God.

Please don’t destroy the good will that has taken so long to build up just because of such an unfortunate situation.

So what if what had been said offended a few people?

So what if some pugnacious people are offended by everything?
