Police arrest five

AT least five people were arrested during Operation Fiela conducted by the Springbok and Port Nolloth clusters on Wednesday (17/06).

One of the arrests was for a fraudulent licence disc and number plates, while the other four persons were arrested for dealing in drugs.

According to Col Pricilla Naidu, the integrated operation was conducted through the setup of two roadblocks at major routes by provincial and local police units, the Department of Home Affairs, the South African National Defence Force, Department of Labour and municipal and provincial Traffic Departments.

The operations focused on illicit drugs, contraband products, undocumented persons, illegal firearms and ammunition, unlicensed businesses and compliance visits to chain stores and businesses.

Naidu further stated that traffic fines to the value of R17 800 were issued on the day. “Dagga, tik, Mandrax and cocaine with an estimated value of R40 000, including an electronic digital scale, a hunting knife and a stun gun were seized.”
