THE VKB Knights’

Rilee Rossouw beamed with joy as he scooped the Most Valuable Player of the Year accolade at the club’s annual awards function held at the Emoya Estate in Bloemfontein on Wednesday (02/09).

The gala ceremony recognised individual performances of the players for their contribution to the success of the team in the 2014 season.

“I am very honoured to receive the award this evening. It really means a lot to me. I am really honoured to represent the Knights family,” Rossouw told Express.

“The award was very unexpected, so I am extremely proud to receive it. I hope the youngsters in the team will work hard this season so that they can be recognised as well. I would be the happiest man to see one of them receiving this award this season,” he said.

Rossouw said he hoped to see the Knights winning silverware in the new season.

“We have a great bunch of players in the team who are hungry for success. I think we will achieve big things this season if we continue to work hard like we did the previous season.

“I am sure all of us will represent the franchise very well,” he said.

The Knights, who have announced VKB as their new title sponsor during the event, reached the Ram Slam T20 final in 2014. However, they lost the match by 33 runs to the Cape Cobras in Cape Town.

Other award winners on the night were Pite van Biljon (Player of the Year), Reeza Hendricks (Highest Individual Score: Domestic One-Day), Dillon du Preez (Momentum One-Day Cup Player of the Year), Gerhard Abrahams (Most Improved Player of the Year), Shadley van Schalkwyk (Ram Slam T20 Player of the Year) and Rudi Second (Players’ Player of the Year)
