SIMAMA RANTA,

ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION (EE) means empowering (Simama) the South African economy (Ranta) through entrepreneurship education (EE).

The awards programme was attended by 28 schools from across South Africa, at the Business Entrepreneurship and Franchise Expo (BEFE) that was held from 10 to 14 September at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.

The schools then went on to exhibit their wares along with the other businesses.

The objective was for these schools to showcase their entrepreneurial work, share the platform with business people and test their entrepreneurial ideas, strategies as well as assessing their business competencies.

The Northern Cape provincial winner of the competition is the K.P. Toto Technical and Commercial High School from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, Kuruman.

They received R50 000 that can be used towards the strengthening of the school learners’ entrepreneurial activities. The focal point of this competition is to promote entrepreneurship education in all communities.

First runner-up from the Northern Cape was the Rietvale High School (Frances Baard District, Ritchie) that won R25 000 with second runner-up Bankhara Budulong, also from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, that won R10 000.

This competition has been running since 2010 with the New Orleans High School from the Paarl (Western Cape) as the 2015 national winner with an award of R100 000
