A NUMBER of schools and groups in the region were supported financially by the Goldfields Casino in Welkom in recent months.

The Edmund Rice School received bursaries to the value of approximately R25 000 per month for 20 learners. In addition, the learners were also given uniforms and textbooks. This is an ongoing initiative and all students involved in the project are continuously encouraged to achieve a minimum 65% pass mark to improve their chances of receiving further education.

The Odendaalsrus Dream Team, consisting of eight students from Odendaalsrus, received funding to cover their tuition fees amounting to around R38 000 to further their studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). The students successfully completed their Community Development and Leadership course.

The Golden Fingers Community Crèche (a non-profit organisation) received much-needed essentials which included toys and educational equipment to the value of R10 000, while the Kutloanong Heavenly Voices Choir received assistance in the form of sound equipment worth nearly R49 000.

The Itokisetseng Combined School had its entire flooring painted, which cost around R37 000.

The Thutokelefa Crèche and Pre-school required assistance with toys and educational equipment. It received a donation of R10 000 to support the needs of the children in its care.

Furthermore, in line with the casino’s programme Moves for Life, the casino sponsors three schools to participate in the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Programme.

The Phomolong Public Library also received a contribution of R15 000 towards food parcels for children who participated in the recent Child Protection Awareness Day.

Sibongile Tantsi, the Goldfields Casino’s marketing manager, said: “Goldfields is dedicated to the upliftment of our local community and believe that it is important for companies to assist wherever possible. We proudly support local charitable organisations, providing essential services, care and support for people in need.”
