Seven dead in road accidents

SEVEN PEOPLE in the Free State died in separate accidents over the weekend.

Five people died and one was seriously injured when a silver Ford Ranger collided with a truck on Saturday (13/06) at about 12:35.

The Ford Ranger was towing a white Mercedes-Benz while travelling south on the N1 road towards Winburg. It is alleged that the driver of the bakkie collided with an oncoming truck as he was trying to swerve away from a stationary truck on the side of the road. The driver of the bakkie and four passengers died on the scene, while one passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. The driver of the towed Mercedes-Benz and his passenger were left unharmed, as well as the truck driver and his passenger. A case of culpable homicide was registered at the Kroonstad police.

In Mangaung, a black Mercedes-Benz with a North-West number plate collided with a white Volkswagen Golf on Maphisa Road in the early hours of Sunday (14/06) morning. It is alleged that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was making a u-turn when the Golf collided with it.

The driver of the Golf and his female passenger died on the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was not found on the scene. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the Mangaung police
