A HIT-AND-RUN incident claimed the life of a Bloemfontein Celtic supporter near the Free State Stadium on Sunday (16/08), shortly after the match against Kaizer Chiefs.

According to the club’s official website, the accident happened a few metres from the Free State Stadium shortly after Celtic were held to a 1-all draw by Kaizer Chiefs during the MTN 8 semi-final first leg.

“It is painful seeing anyone unceremoniously losing their life in such a horrendous way,” Celtic chairman, Max Tshabalala, said.

“We are pained as the Celtic family at losing a supporter who has dedicated his life to Celtic, travelling thousands of kilometres just to watch his team.

“Our sincere and deepest condolences to the family. We will, as a team, visit the family of the deceased to try and see how we can possibly help.

“We request motorists to kindly consider the pedestrians at all times,” concluded the Celtic chairman.

Meanwhile, both Celtic security officers and law enforcement authorities are working together to identify the culprit and will ensure that justice takes its course. This, according to the Celtic MD, Rali Ramabodu.

“The team will avail its resources to help with the investigations and we appeal to anyone with information to contact the police”, Ramabodu said.) Celtic will welcome Platinum Stars to the Free State Stadium for their Absa Premiership match on Sunday (23/08) at 15:00
