AMONG the various activities that are held within the communities relating to women’s issues this month, 38 women of the Galeshewe Police Station celebrated Women’s Day at the Halfway House Restaurant in Kimberley under the theme Women United in Moving South Africa Forward on Friday, 14 August.

According to Sgt Majang Skalkie, the annual commemoration of Women’s Month intends to remind the country about women’s rights issues and recall the struggle for women’s emancipation.

He highlighted that during August South Africa celebrates and pays tribute to women who led the march in 1956 to protest against pass laws that controlled the movement of blacks.

Rev. Dr Arthur le Roux opened the event with a prayer. The guest speaker of the day was Kathy Harding, a healthcare practitioner of the the BEE Active Health Shop.

The guest list also included Noxolo Tshukela, a community activist, performance artist and social commentator in Kimberley. Tshukela read a poem which she dedicated to the women.

Harding delivered a motivational speech centred around a healthy lifestyle
