YCL members reach out to elderly

2015-06-10 06:02

THE pride of a 71-year-old woman

from John Daka 2 in Galeshewe near Kimberley was somewhat restored when members of the Young Communist League in the Parks Leburu District showed up at her doorstep to celebrate Mother’s Day with her.

The league members cleaned Betty Kakora’s yard and washed her blankets, before handing over a large grocery hamper and a bed with new blankets.

They also enjoyed lunch with her at her home.

As part of the campaign Know and Act in Your Neighbourhood, this elderly woman was identified as one of the disadvantaged, poor and helpless community members that the league has adopted to galvanise and mobilise support for.

The Young Communist League calls on all South Africans to rally behind this campaign.

“We also take this opportunity to call on state institutions and law enforcement agencies to demonstrate zero tolerance for gender-based violence, including that aimed at children,” said Dice Leburu, committee secretary of the YCL’s Parks Leburu District
