ABC league kicks off

2016-09-07 06:00

THE Free State stream of the third-tier football division ABC Motsepe League, featuring 16 clubs, is scheduled to roar into life this Friday (09/09) with two teams in action.

The match sees Welkom-based teams, Sibanye Golden Stars and Dinonya, battling it out in a derby at the Bronville Stadium.

The derby is the opening fixture of the 2016-’17 season and marks the start of the gruelling race for entry into the professional National First Division League.

The fixture between Golden Stars and Dinonyana is set to start at 18:00. The rest of the matches are set for Saturday (10/09) and these will see 12 clubs battling it out for three points at stake.

Saturday’s fixtures will be followed by a single fixture on Sunday (11/09) between newly-promoted Viljoenskroon-based Lijabatho and relegated Qwaqwa-based African Warriors at the Letshabo Stadium in Viljoenskroon.

Last season’s winner Manco Milan from Sasolburg will be missing in action after selling their franchise for an undisclosed amount to Tshiame All Stars, which will use Harrismith as their home ground for all home fixtures.

Last season’s runner-up, Central University of Technology (CUT) will start their fixture with a tough derby encounter against arch-rivals Hunters at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo on Saturday.

Another local derby in Mangaung on Saturday is between Bloemfontein Young Tigers and Bloemfontein Celtic at the Westdene Stadium.

Mangaung United will look for a great start against newcomers Dla2 FC in a fixture to be played at the Phuthaditjhaba Stadium while Bubchu United hosts Dikwena United at the Tempe Stadium.
