Arrows coach wants 15 points

2016-03-02 06:00

THE Golden Arrows coach, Clinton Larsen, feels his team needs another 15 points to ensure a top eight finish this season.

The reigning first division champions are ninth in the standings, with 25 points and 11 games to go.

The Golden Arrows have regained some form after losing four successive matches.

The team beat Polokwane City 2-1 away before holding the all-conquering Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw.

Larsen hopes that they can build on this and secure the top eight finish.

The plan is to start with this weekend’s home match against Platinum Stars.

“We realistically need 15 points from our last 11 games,” he says.

“Fifteen out of 33, I think it is achievable to get to 40 points and that is going to be our target.

“I also believe 40 is good enough for the top eight place this season.

“It’s not going to be easy . . . you’ve got SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, you’ve got Ajax, you’ve got Celtic who want to get there.

“There are Free State Stars and so many teams who want to get in there.

“Platinum Stars also want to be in the top eight, so it’s not gonna be easy.”

Forty points were enough to see Maritzburg United finish

in the top eight last season

under the tutelage of Steve Komphela.

In 30 matches played, they won ten, lost ten and drew ten.
