BOHLOKONG. – Dieketseng Mofokeng, a gr. 12 learner at the Ntsu Secondary School, was crowned first princess at the recent Miss Dihlabeng Beauty Pageant held at the Bethlehem Town Hall.

She is no stranger to pageants, as she started participating in beauty pageants at an early age. Mofokeng, who is known to her followers and friends as “Dk”, boasts a number of titles including Miss Clarens Intermediate School.

She won it when she was still in gr. 1. At the age of 12 years, Dk claimed the Miss Valentine title before she was crowned Miss Ntsu Secondary School in the 2014-’15 edition.

“I’m very passionate about beauty pageants. I feel good when I win, but I know that we win some and lose some,” says the petite first princess.

When asked about the secret of her success, as she is so small in body size, she smiles and says: “Dynamite comes in small packets”.

Her mother, Joyce Mashease Ndwene, describes her daughter as someone who’s got self-esteem, talent and likes education a lot. She said she always dreamt of being a good leader who would motivate the youth by giving them quality advice all the time.

“She wants everyone to be educated, to abstain from sex and to avoid unwanted pregnancy. That would also help them to avoid contracting HIV,” her mother adds.

She says that her daughter doesn’t just want to pay lip service about a responsible lifestyle, she wants to lead by example.

Dk has come forth to congratulate the recently-crowned Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene.

“Well done to Kunene. I wish you the best and I have chosen you as my role model, because it is my dream to be Miss South Africa one day. Just like you,” says Dieketseng.

Dieketseng would love to be involved in workshops in the community where she can contribute to changing the paths which lead the youth astray. She is aware of the dangers of drugs, gangsterism and a lack of interest in studies among the current crop of youth.

She says she firmly supports the Miss Dihlabeng’s slogan of Beauty with a purpose, as this challenges the youth to have some purpose in their lives.

DK WAS among 20 contestants who battled it out for the crown in the 2015-’16 Miss Dihlabeng Beauty Pageant, which took place on 19 December in the Bethlehem Town Hall.

Lebohang Motloung was the winner of the big prize on the day. However, Dk is hoping to do better in this year’s edition.
