THE Parkweg police, aided by the members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad, arrested two suspects on Saturday morning (19/03).

The two, who have been identified as notorious criminals wanted in the Eastern Cape, had broken into the Sanlam Plaza shopping mall in the central business district of Bloemfontein.

Captain Chaka Marope said the suspects had been spotted by police who had been on routine patrol in the vicinity in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The suspects were seen breaking down the door to the Sanlam Plaza with a big stone.

According to Marope, the police responded swiftly and caught the suspects after they had broken into the Cash Crusaders store located inside the mall.

They were arrested before they could steal anything from the store.

During preliminary investigations on the scene and bodily searches of the suspects, one unlicensed firearm, with its serial number filed away, was found in possession of one of the suspects.

Further investigation revealed that the two suspects were notorious and wanted criminals from the Eastern Cape who were being sought in relation to a series of violent crimes and who had been positively linked to a series of housebreaking cases.

The arrested suspects are aged 34 and 36.

They are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges of business burglary and possession of an illegal firearm.
