Blood test can save your life

2017-02-15 06:01

A free blood pressure test that could save your life will be offered to members of the public on Friday (17/02).

This is a free service offered by MediRite Pharmacy in support of Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day on 19 February.

To make use of this free service, those wanting to undergo a blood pressure test are urged to make an appointment at their nearest pharmacy branch.

A friendly and qualified pharmacist will administer the blood pressure test.

“High blood pressure, or hypertension, is known as a ‘silent killer’ because there are no obvious warning signs. The only way to know if you are at risk is to have your blood pressure mea-sured,” explains Dr Michael Mol, head of Hello Doctor.

“High blood pressure is also known as a chronic or non-communicable disease. It is called chronic because it deve-lop over a long period, mostly due to continued exposure to an unhealthy lifestyle,” Mol says.

“The good news is that blood pressure tests are quick and minimally invasive.

“They also have the potential to save lives.”

The free blood pressure tests are available at 146 MediRite pharmacies, conveniently located in Checkers and Shoprite supermarkets across South Africa.

In the Free State, blood tests will be conducted at the following shopping centres: Twin City Shopping Centre Bloemfontein (051-432-0315), Middestad Centre Bloemfontein (051-430-2310) and Welkom (057-352-1375). Visit www.medirite.co.za to locate your nearest one.
