BETHLEHEM. – The Primary School Bodikela are the champions of the 2016 edition of the u.15 Copa Coca-Cola in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District.

They won the championship after narrowly defeating the Primary School Lesaoana of Qwaqwa in the final round, recently played in Harrismith.

It was sweet revenge for the Bohlokong-based school, as they had been knocked out by the same school in the final of the 2016 McDonald’s regional finals.

This victory means Bodikela has booked its place in the Free State provincial finals, which will be staged on Saturday (27/08) in Bloemfontein.

The champions from Thabo Mofutsanyana will battle it out with other schools from the Mangaung Metro, Fezile Dabi, Xharip and the Lejweleputswa District for a place in the national finals.

Charles Molefe, the team’s mentor, pointed out that it was time that they won the national championship. He said they have been out of the picture, as they have been developing new players.

“The team that lost in the national finals a few years ago are no longer with us. We have been doing well in other tournaments, except for Coca-Cola,” he said.

He said the boys know what is at stake and they are eager to represent the province in the national finals. Molefe knows the journey to the national finals will not be easy.

“We know all the teams will be vying for the provincial championship. We have been in that stage before and we know what is required to jump the step,” he said.

He said they have started preparing the team for the provincial contest. “We will play a few friendly games to keep the boys fit,” he said.
