Bogus offical on the loose

2016-07-20 06:00

THE Department of Labour in the Free State has strongly warned the public against an unscrupulous individual by the name of Jerry claiming to be a labour inspector.

Josial Ramokoena, provincial spokesperson, said the suspect had already been to two farmers in the Xhariep district where he had issued employers with illegitimate inspection reports and contravention notices.

He said the suspect introduced himself to the farmers as Jerry and claimed to be based at the Reddersburg Post Office.

He said unsuspecting employers were intimidated by this individual into believing that legal steps would be taken if they did not accede to his demands and in the event tried to solicit bribes.

He warned employers to be on the lookout for bogus inspectors.
