Camp planned to help youth

2017-05-17 06:01

Young people in Kimberley are given an opportunity to make a significant change in their lives through a three-day camp.

It is planned for Friday, 16 June, to Sunday, 18 June.

The organisers of the camp, the Kimberley-based Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, Lighthouse Empire and Sold Out Youth Ministries, appeal for assistance in making the camp a success.

Their aim with the camp is to give the young people a new outlook on life.

The churches refuse to ignore the sight of young people who celebrate their time off from school with the use of alcohol and all sorts of drugs.

Concerns were raised by the organisers about the attitude of young people who tend to be blinded and misled by harmful and unnecessary “highs” through the use of alcohol and drugs. By doing this, they are at risk of destroying themselves and their future.

The churches plan to intervene through the Holy Spirit, who will guide the youth to have the desire to turn their lives around.

“We want to show them the light and we want to give them hope. We want to give them Jesus. It is as beautiful and as simple as that.

“All of us who have the knowledge and the means to be able to do this, should make it our mission to help change their lives and change their vision for their future,” said Gillian Titus, the public relations officer of Lighthouse.

He said the plan was to host as many young people from the community at the camp at Deo Gloria, Barkly West.

They currently have a small amount of young people who participate in extramural activities such as dance, drama or music.

“Our desire is to have as many young people as possible join this group, because we simply want to see our young people progress in life and to watch our children laugh, have fun and experience love.

“It breaks our heart that we have so many exceptionally talented young people in Kimberley who are wasting their lives away rapidly.

“We want to help them to dream again and to realise that there is hope and a bright future ahead.”

The team currently has nothing in terms of any material or transport budget to make the camp a success.

They are pleading for sponsorships.

Anyone willing to pledge their support towards the aim of uplifting the youth, can call Titus on 076-679-6304 or Lesley Hanser on 074-680-0542.
