BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC has officially announced the appointment of Serame Letsoaka as the club’s new head coach.

Phunya Sele Sele was without a coach, following the departure of Clinton Larsen, who has been appointed as new head coach for Golden Arrows.

Interestingly, Letsoaka coached Arrows until he resigned on 30 November.

The Senekal-born coach said he was extremely proud to return to the club that he had coached in the 1990s.

“I am really happy to rejoin Celtic. It is like returning home, as I had coached the club previously,” said Letsoaka.

“It is every coach’s wish in South Africa to coach a team of Celtic’s calibre. Opportunities like this come only once in a lifetime. I want to thank the management of the club for showing trust in me,” he added.

Letsoaka, who has served the country at the highest level as a South African Football Association (Safa) technical director, said he was impressed with the club’s training facilities.

“I was really impressed when I arrived at the club to see their training facilities. It becomes a challenge for me to achieve a lot at the club. I am determined to work hard to achieve required results,” said the coach, who possesses high coaching qualifications and also serves as a Confederation of African Football (Caf) coaching instructor.

Letsoaka stated that there was nothing sinister about his departure from Arrows, but some personal reasons forced him to resign at the Durban based club.

“Honestly, I had a very good working relationship with everybody associated with the club. The owner (Mato Madlala) and I constantly phone each other to discuss football matters. I get along well with her,” he said.

“My primary aim is to turn Celtic into a formidable side. I want to win trophies with the club. We have very good players that can win us those trophies,” he added.

Meanwhile, Celtic’s chairman, Max Tshabalala, expressed his delight with the arrival of Letsoaka at Siwelele Park.

“Words cannot describe our utter joy, to sign a coach of such impeccable credentials with an incredible work ethic,” said Tshabalala.

“We are a futuristic institution believing in our own talent and Serame is an appropriate choice to help us fulfil our long-term vision. He has a wealth of experience, working with youth at different national levels and that will also benefit our development sides,” he added.

Letsoaka will be assisted by Duncan Lechesa, who has been promoted to the senior side. The two men will be sitting on the bench when Celtic travel to Port Elizabeth to face Chippa United in a Premiership match on 18 December.
