Celtic sign up new players

2016-07-06 06:00

BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2016-’17 Absa Premiership season through the addition of several new players, as announced on Sunday (03/07) in the Dr Molemela Stadium’s indoor centre.

The reinforcements added to the roster of the Free State side are Cheslyn Jampies, Dean Hotto, Atusaye Nyondo, Mpho Maruping, Sibusiso Mxoyana, Tlou Molekwane and Khethokwakhe Masuku.

These new additions will hopefully provide a welcome facelift for a side that finished 11th in the standings last season.

Following the departure of Keagan Buchanan to Kaizer Chiefs, it was imperative that Siwelele bring in a midfield replacement and they have done so with the addition of Maruping of the University of Pretoria.

Joining him is fellow Tuks player Nyondo.

The Malawian will be looking to fulfil all of his promise, having been given the chance to remain in the top flight.

Former Royal Eagles man Masuku will add experience to the side and can chip in with the odd goal, as he demonstrated with his brace against Witbank Spurs last season.

However, the biggest coup is probably the signing of Jampies, who was on the radar of plenty of other top-flight outfits after his contract with relegated Jomo Cosmos had not been renewed.

However, new acquisitions aside, Celtic have been unable to complete the acquisition of Lehlohonolo Majoro, despite speculation that he could be heading to Bloemfontein.

Meanwhile, the players who have had their departures confirmed by the club today are Lerato Lamola, Vuyani Ntanga (who leaves for Golden Arrows) and Bevan Fransman, whilst Thabang Matuka and Julius Likontsane will go out on loan next season.

Kabelo Mahlasela has returned from his loan spell at Royal Eagles and was present at the announcement.
