Charge changed to murder

2017-07-05 06:02

The Excelsior police have changed the investigation into the death of Tseleng Emily Setona (35) in June into a murder investigation.

Her boyfriend, Oupa Elias Shata (38), is now charged with murder and appeared in the Excelsior Magistrate’s Court on 19 June.

This follows the post-mortem results, which revealed that Setona had died due to stab wounds suffered to the neck.

Sgt Martin Xuma, police spokesperson, says Shata told the police that Setona had fallen on a sharp object, injuring her and causing her death.

“The boyfriend was interrogated and he confessed that they had had a quarrel over Setona’s ex-boyfriend. He allegedly then stabbed her with a sharp object,” says Xuma.
