The fierce race involving the top five teams vying for the second-tier ABC Motsepe League title in the Free State stream remains unchanged.

Bubchu United (41 points), Super Eagles (40 points), Harmony (39 points), Bloemfontein Young Tigers (37 points) and Mangaung Unite (37 points) are battling it out for the Free State championship title.

With only two points separating the five top teams, the chase is on.

The competition will continue on Saturday (25/02) when log-leaders, Bubchu, and third place, Harmony, face off in the Zoka Baloyi Stadium in Welkom.

Kick-off is at 17:00.

After mixed results in the league matches that were played last week and over the weekend, none of the five teams eyeing the title managed to break away from the pack.

The fixtures included three derbies of Bloemfontein-based teams – Mangaung, Tigers, Bubchu and the Central University of Technology (CUT).

Tigers were dealt a devastating blow, losing derbies against Bubchu and Mangaung 2-3 and 1-2 respectively.

The result saw Tigers dropping to fourth position.

They have only themselves to blame for the defeat against Bubchu on Wednesday (15/02) at the Clive Solomon Stadium.

Tigers lost the lead twice. Bubchu recovered to win, capitalising on Tigers’ lapse of concentration.

In another derby played in Bloemfontein on Saturday (18/02), current log-leaders Bubchu failed to consolidate their position on the table when they narrowly lost to CUT by 2-3.

In other fixtures scheduled for Saturday (25/02), Tigers will take on African Warriors at the Charles Mopeli Stadium in Qwaqwa and Eagles will tussle with Bloemfontein Celtic in Bethlehem.

Mangaung will host Free State Stars at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Scheduled kick-off for these matches is at 15:00.
