Prodigy praise singer Rorisang Motseki (10) is the youngest winner announced at this year’s South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma), held on 29 October in Richards Bay.

Jah Rose (her stage name) received the best praise singer award for “Modimo O Phelang”, meaning “Living God”. She was chosen as the winner over Jessica Mbangeni, who was nominated for her song “Tribute to the African heroines”. Rorisang and Jessica were the only two nominees in the category.

This is Rorisang’s first-ever award, and she received it barely a year after she had started her singing career. She is the daughter of proud couple Benny and Maria Motseki, who are both reggae artists and were nominees in 2015.

Mathabo Leeto, Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, has given Rorisang the thumbs-up for her achievement.

“We are immensely proud of her. I wish to thank all the people who supported her. Rorisang is one of many talented Free State artists and, hopefully, we will have many more artists like her to emerge and excel at a national level,” said Leeto.
