Club happy with additions to team

FREE STATE STARS were extremely active on transfer deadline day with SuperSport United’s Brandon Dean joining four other recruits.

Ea Lla Koto were forced to make major additions to a squad that was decimated in the wake of talks involving a Moroka Swallows buy-out.

Following the breakdown of those negotiations Stars were left a little thin, having sold a number of its high-profile players.

The Bethlehem-based outfit brought in Dean, former Sundowns goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni, former Barcelona trainee Ella Ken Armand, Kenyan defender Joseph Okumu and Ugandan forward Hamis Kizza on the final day.

The signings have left Stars’ general manager, Rantsi Mokoena, feeling rather optimistic despite their defeat to Chippa United in their season opener.

“Firstly we would like to welcome the new players into our team,” Mokoena said on the club’s official website.

“I think we have taken our time to have a look at them and we are very satisfied with what we have seen. We have made sure that we replace the players we lost last season with equally good players, if not better.

“We have assembled a fairly good team this season, despite losing our first match. I am adamant that this season we will surprise many who have written us off after only one game into the new season.”
