The players of the Kimberley-based football team Colville United have vowed not to let the opportunity of being the Northern Cape team to be promoted to the National First Division (NFD) pass them by.

That is after Colville United, who are leading in the B-stream, gave their opponents, Liverpool, a lashing with a 3-2 lead at the AR Abass Stadium in Kimberley over the weekend.

Previously they ended head to head with opponents Kuruman Kicks, with three points.

On Saturday, 26 November, Colville United take on the Olifantshoek Youngsters in another home-game at the AR Abass Stadium in a tenth game.

According to Donald Davids, coach, they do not see the upcoming game as a threat, as they will keep to the game of using technique.

The four-year-old team will not allow a damper to be put on their spirit, unlike in the previous season where they were outplayed by Morester Jeug during the play-offs.

“That was a mistake. We refuse to allow it to re-occur. It was an eye-opener from which we learnt,” said Davids.

Davids is confident that they are set to achieve their goal of being promoted in two years.

“We have set a goal for ourselves to achieve maximum points.

“It is a fact that we need these points and we do not fear that we will fail. All we will do is to keep our momentum.

“This is part of our three-year plan, which is to be promoted to the NFD. Our first season was a success, so our second season will also be a success.

“Thus, I say we have the potential to achieve our dream this time.”

He said they had the opportunity to return to Morester Jeug to test their own potential after their 3-2 loss to them.

“Now we are confident that we can win this league, especially after we managed to compete with such a strong team in the province, that has ten years of experience in top leagues.”
