THE Free State Crinums hope to continue their onslaught in pursuit of winning the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League title the third time in a row when they play the Gauteng Golden Fireballs in the quarter-finals.

This round of the competition is scheduled for Friday (20/05) and Saturday (21/05) at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

In another game, the Western Cape Southern Stings will battle it out against the KwaZulu-Natal Kingdom Stars.

The Free State girls finished among the top-four teams, including archrivals North-West Flames, Gauteng Jaguars and Southern Stings, in positions one, two and three respectively. The top-seeded teams found themselves in their respective positions after six rounds of blood and sweat.

The Crinums overcame their dismal start in the competition as it progressed, disposing of the Golden Fireballs, who looked set for a guaranteed fourth place earlier.

Victory for the Crinums in the quarter-final will secure them the semifinal on 27 May, with a win here seeing them through to the final on 28 May. This will bring them to the gate of glory of a third win in the premier netball championship.

By virtue of finishing in the first and second position on the table, the Flames and Jaguars are guaranteed a place in the semifinal.

The Crinums fell by the wayside in their mission to secure a third position on the log standings.

Their narrow 32-31 win against the Stings tested their champion pedigree and prepared them for the quarter-final encounter against the Fireballs.
