FOURIESBURG. – Two men, aged 40 and 52, were arrested after they had been caught with dagga to an estimated street value of R302 190 on Saturday (10/09).

The suspects were arrested by members of the Provincial Borderline Task Team in the early hours of Saturday.

This was as part of an overnight operation set up after the task team had received a tip-off about the planned transportation of the drugs.

Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli, police spokesperson, said the 52-year-old man from Mahi-keng was caught shortly after illegally crossing into South Africa from Lesotho.

“Dagga was discovered in the boot of the sedan he was travelling in. Moments later, a 40-year-old foreign national was also stopped and searched after crossing into South Africa in a similar manner,” said Mohobeleli.

“Members of the police discovered 154,55 kg of dagga hidden inside the Toyota Quantum the suspect was driving.”

He said the duo would appear in the Fouriesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of the possession of dagga.
