THE Department of Health has denied claims that the residents of Wesselsbron are only serviced by one ambulance.

Residents of Wesselsbron complained that the entire community is serviced by one ambulance which is struggling to reach the entire community in time.

The small town of Wesselsbron is situated 75 km south of Bothaville.

A source residing in Wesselsbron said some residents have lost loved ones after spending hours waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

“We don’t have a hospital and our clinic is not open 24/7,” said the source.

Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for Free State Health, denied the allegations on Monday (08/02)

Mvambi said Wesselsbron is serviced by two ambulances.

“For today we have only one operational ambulance due to officials that reported sick Z they are on sick leave,” said Mvambi.

Mvambi said the department was working on strengthening the pre-hospital care of which emergency mobile services (EMS) is being prioritised.

“We shall be recruiting more than 23 officials for EMS to service the Lejweleputswa area,” he said.

Mvambi said this will only be implemented in the 2016-’17 financial year.
