The donation of a 16 seater vehicle to New Tech, a local 100% black-owned business as part of a supplier development programme by the Droogfontein De Aar Solar power, will cut costs of using hired vehicles.

The company, New Tech, which is a local service provider to the solar power, is reported to have previously been making use of a hired vehicle for staff transportation, which is very costly.

The donated vehicle, valued at R340 263, will enable New Tech to expand their operation and securing additional contracts within De Aar and the surrounding areas.

Marion Green-Thompson, Economic Development Manager for De Aar Solar Power, emphasised during the handover that the vehicle is expected to help boost and grow their business as part of Droogfontein’s Enterprise Development programme.

A 23-seater vehicle valued at R541 450 was similarly donated to New Tech in support of its basic maintenance activities, as well as solar panel cleaning services.

According to Droogfontein Solar Power, their partnership between De Aar Solar Power’s Enterprise Development involves initiatives to assist and accelerate the sustainability of local enterprises by ploughing financial resources into the local area as well as the establishment of a local community trust.

The Solar Power pledges continuation of these programmes for the 20 year life of the project that will focus on local communities in the 50 km radius of the power plants.
