It is all systems go for Thapelo Molelekwa (18) to start his studies in Medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

That is after Thapelo, a gr. 12 learner of the Kimberley Boys’ High School in 2016, obtained seven distinctions in the matric exam.

Flanked by his proud mother, Princess, and younger sister, Dineo (14), Thapelo was acknowledged by Martha Bartlett, the MEC for Education, and Sylvia Lucas, premier of the Northern Cape, for earning a place among the top three learners in the province.

He was honoured at the matric awards ceremony for 2016, held at the Tabernakel church hall on Thursday (05/01).

He performed well in all his subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Accounting, English, Afrikaans and Life Orientation.

According to Thapelo, it was all about staying focussed, maintaining good time management and keeping his priorities straight throughout the year.

“I owe it mostly to my family, who supported me through the year, especially my mother, who is a single parent, and my sister,” Molelekwa said proudly.

According to this hard worker, all that was left for him to do was to submit his final results to the university, as he had already received provisional acceptance and bursaries to complete his studies.
