Four remain at the top

2016-10-19 06:00

THE top four remained unchanged on the MultiChoice Diski Challenge table after Bidvest Wits, Highlands Park, Mamelodi Sundowns and Lamontville Golden Arrows all won over the weekend.

The Students and the Lions of the North remain at the top of the pile thanks to a fourth win from five matches for a total of 13 points apiece.

Wits were the 2-0 winners over Orlando Pirates at Rand Stadium, while Highlands enjoyed a successful journey to Goble Park, where they won 2-1 against Free State Stars.

The Brazilians, meanwhile, remained a point behind on 12 points following their 2-0 triumph over Bloemfontein Celtic at the TUT Stadium.

Defending champions Abafana Bes’thende consolidated fourth place with a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

The Durban side are two points behind Sundowns and three behind the leaders.

Kaizer Chiefs joined them on 10 points after they won 1-0 against Polokwane City at Dobsonville Stadium, leapfrogging Maritzburg United in the process.

Although the Team of Choice are the only unbeaten team apart from the leaders, they lost some ground after a third draw in five matches – a goalless scoreline against Cape Town City at Gugulethu Stadium (NY 49).

In other results of the weekend, Platinum Stars were the biggest winners after they trounced Baroka FC 4-1 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

It was also Dikwena’s first win of the campaign.

Finally, SuperSport United and Chippa United played to a 0-0 draw at TUT Stadium.

The league resumes in mid-November.
