Free State teams qualify

2016-10-19 06:00

THE Nedbank Cup qualifying preliminary elimination rounds for Free State clubs campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League has seen four teams cruising to the next round.

They are the Sibanye Golden Stars from Welkom, Bethlehem-based Super Eagles, Bloemfontein-based Hunters and Bloemfontein-based Young Tigers.

These teams won their knockout fixtures that were played recently.

The four teams are set to meet on 29 October in Bethlehem where they will battle it out for a spot in the Free State final of the prestigious competition, which will see football teams across leagues – amateur and professional – compete against each other.

The draw has seen Tigers pitted against local rivals Hunters, with last year’s Free State winner Golden Stars taking on Bethlehem-based Eagles.

The winner will automatically go through to the provincial final to play against the winner of the lower division Regional League.

The teams compete on a knockout basis and will continue playing on the same format.

The Regional League final is set to be staged on 30 October in Reitz.

Klip Moremi, provincial South African Football Association manager, said in cases where teams fail to produce a winner in regulation time, the winner will be decided via penalties.

“There will be no extra time in all fixtures of this competition.

“The same will apply in the provincial final between the winner of ABC Motsepe League and Regional League,” he said.

The Free State winner will automatically go through to the last 32-leg of the tournament with the ultimate prize of competing in the CAF Champions League.
