‘Ghosts’ (not) in meetings

2016-05-04 06:00

WITH reference to the news report in Express Eastern Free State (20/04), “Satawu unhappy about security”.

It is no surprise that the executive mayor, Tjhetane Mofokeng, was not present to receive the memorandum as requested by the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu).

The mayor is like a ghost. You do not see him at all. He has even stopped attending council meetings. Job Tsabalala, a member of the mayoral committee (MMC), has acted for him as mayor in every meeting.

I do not think the voters of Ward 8, where he is the ward councillor, are aware of this. The mayor receives the highest salary of all councillors in the Dihlabeng Local Municipality and is a full-time councillor, which implies that he must be available at all times.

He flees regularly when there is a protest march and sends someone else in his place.

This time it was a private security company in riot gear similar to the Apartheid era.

Another MMC, Phakiso Mokoena, the councillor for Ward 4, is also absent from council meetings.

As a full-time councillor, he should also be available at all times.

I doubt if the voters of Ward 4 know about this.

How can he give feedback to the voters if he is always absent? Again, as a full-time councillor, he receives a large salary.

He is ghost number two.

It is time that the ANC removes these two councillors from office, because they are not fulfilling their duties, but still get paid every month by the tax payers of Dihlabeng. Perhaps we need to bring in the “ghost busters”.
