Girl on path to recovery

2015-11-25 06:23

HARRISMITH. – Thato Tshabalala (10), sister to the late twins, Refiloe and Reneiloe (3), who died in an accident that happened between Harrismith and Warden a fortnight ago, is slowly recovering in her hospital bed at the Pelonomi Hospital.

She was admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries whilst trying to rescue the twins from a burning bus.

The bus, carrying schoolchildren was on its way from the Sbonagaliso Combined School.

Apparently, the trio were in the bus which was travelling from Warden to Harrismith when it caught fire.

There were 22 pupils in the 60-seater bus when it swerved across the road and came to rest on the road side.

Speaking to Express Eastern Free State on Monday (23/11) on his way to the hospital, their father, Safi Mofokeng, confirmed that Thato was doing fine and added that he had been talking to her.

He said, however, that the doctors had called him and told him that Thato suspected that something bad had happened to the twins.

“We haven’t told her anything about the twins,” he said.

“We thought we should give her time to recover before we tell her the truth. One of the nurses at the hospital, however, has advised us to tell her as soon as possible so that they can take her through counselling,” he said.

Mofokeng said the twins had been buried at the Fatima Cemetery on Saturday (21/11).
