Help needed to identify deceased miner

2016-04-06 06:00

THE Odendaalsrus police have discovered the body of a man suspected to be an illegal gold miner from Lesotho. The deceased was brought to the surface after he had died underground at the Tshepong Mine in Odendaalsrus.

Lt. Malebo Khosana, Thabong police spokesperson, said the body had been retrieved by the mine rescue team.

The police are hesitant to positively identify the deceased, although the body was found with a note stating: Masilonyane Motsepa – Thaba Tseka Village, Lesotho. Khosana said nobody had come forward to claim the body since its discovery in February.

The Odendaalrus police are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information about the deceased and his next of kin can call Const. Nicholas Bouwer on 073-383-3714 or 057-916-2438.
