IN an effort to raise public awareness around the issue of world hunger in support of World Hunger Month, which is observed in October, De Beers in Kimberley partnered with Stop Hunger Now to raise awareness on 27 October.

Working in three teams, the stakeholders packed 15 000 meals within 120 minutes in the Kimberley City Hall.

“We had to give our all in the 120 minutes to reach the target of packing 30 meals in a box,” said Lisa Brugmann of De Beers.

According to Brugmann, the meal hamper boxes will be donated to needy charity organisations and families in the Kimberley area.

“We are encouraging our staff to nominate charities of their choice to receive the meal hampers.”

The packing process was facilitated by Dane Myles of Stop Hunger Now.

“The meals are highly nutritious and comprise of rice, soya, dehydrated vegetable mix and a fortification pack of 23 essential minerals and vitamins, which is specifically formulated to combat malnutrition and complies with United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) standards.
