Kovsie FC to defend points

2016-03-23 06:00

THIS season’s title race of the third-tier stream of the South African Football Association (Safa) and Mangaung Metro has again come down to a two-horse contest.

Bitter rivals Kovsie FC, who finished as the runner-up, and Kingston, winners of last season, are again the favourites in the fierce championship contest.

Kovsie are in the lead with 49 points, with Kingston on 43 points, after 21 and 20 games, respectively (before going to print).

Celtic All Stars are in third place with 39 points and is the dark horse in the fiercely-contested championship.

Having lost in last year’s championship contest, Kovsie seems fired up to pull out all the stops to clinch the title and qualify for this year’s Free State promotional play-offs, which will determine the two clubs to be promoted to the second-tier Safa ABC Motsepe League.

They are set to battle it out in an intriguing league fixture on Monday (28/03) at the sports grounds of the University of the Free State (UFS).

The winner of this encounter would have done itself a favour to intensify prospects to win.

A favourable result will see Kingston narrow the six-point lead and also enhance their chances to steal the championship from the current leaders, Kovsie.
