Kovsies tops in intervarsity

PHUTHADITJHABA. – Team Kovsies shone brightest when the Qwaqwa Campus hosted this year’s intervarsity games on Saturday, 6 August.

As usual, both the Qwaqwa and Bloemfontein campuses attempted to outplay and outclass each other in a number of sporting codes, thus strengthening the Kovsie teams in each of the codes.

The highlight of the fun-filled day was the football match between the two campuses’ SRCs, with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.

Coaching clinics were also conducted in chess, table tennis, tennis and cricket.

Other results were as follows:

Football:

Qwaqwa campus 3, Bloemfontein campus 2 (male)

Qwaqwa campus 4, Bloemfontein campus 1 (female)

Basketball:

Qwaqwa campus 17, Bloemfontein campus 48 (male)

Qwaqwa campus 15, Bloemfontein campus 70 (female)

Netball:

Qwaqwa campus 18, Bloemfontein campus 40

Residences football:

Qwaqwa campus 0, Bloemfontein campus 1

Qwaqwa campus 2, Bloemfontein campus 1

Meanwhile, the Qwaqwa Campus’ cross country team had a successful competition when they competed in the Eastern Free State championship that was recently held in Bethlehem.

Moorosi Semase clocked in at 27:26 in the u.19 8 km run, while in the 4 km u.22 section, Kovsie teammates dominated with ease as they occupied positions 1 to 4.

Malema Hlubi was the fastest when he clocked in at 11:13, followed by Lebohang Miya (11:33), Lindokuhle Miya (11:39) and Lebohang Tsotetsi (11:45).

In the seniors’ 10 km race, Lesedi Radebe and Bheki Sishi came first and second respectively.

These results qualified them for the Free State championship that was held in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 13 August.

In congratulating his charges, coach Moorosi Boy Soke said that he was very proud of the achievements of these dedicated athletes.

Soke also revealed that they will be competing at the national championship that will be held in George in the Western Cape on Saturday, 10 September.
