Life in jail for child rape

2016-05-11 06:00

LADYBRAND. – Thabang Ditabe (25) was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ladybrand Regional Court.

The heavy sentence came after he had been found guilty of a rape that he had committed early last year.

On 11 February last year at about 13:00, Ditabe, who was living in Marquard, saw children playing in a yard opposite to where he stayed.

He then called a seven-year-old girl, put her on his lap and started to tell her a story.

While the child was listening to him, he penetrated her with his finger several times.

The child jumped off his lap and ran away.

The victim then told her ten-year-old sister about her ordeal.

Later that day, when their mother came home from work, they told her about what had happened to the younger sister.

They also showed the mother the blood stains on the underwear of the victim.

The mother immediately reported the matter to the Marquard Police Station.

The following day the suspect was arrested.

He was detained at the Clocolan Police Station until his sentencing.
