Livestock broker stays in jail

2017-09-13 06:02

A well-known Bloemfontein livestock broker, Reinhardt Verster (34), known as Seiso, is expected to reappear in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (14/09).

He faces charges of alleged stock theft relating to four cases.

Three cases are in connection with the alleged theft of 50 head of cattle from Dewetsdorp.

The fourth case relates to the theft of 20 head of cattle valued at R140 000 from the Bloemspruit area in Bloemfontein.

WO Loraine Earle, provincial police spokesperson, said Verster had appeared in Dewetsdorp on the three cases involving the theft of the 50 head of cattle on 23 August.

She said he had been arrested earlier in connection with the alleged theft of the 20 head of cattle.

Earle said Verster had previously been found guilty of stock theft in 2014.

The accused remains in custody after the state objected his bail application on the grounds that he committed the same offences during his suspension period with the same modus operandi that he was found guilty on in 2014.

“Verster would allegedly approach farmers with a proposal to sell their cattle and when they asked for their money he did not keep to the agreement of the transaction,” said Earle.
