THE Top Actor Africa season 2 contestant, Marilyn Sekgapane, has swapped numbers for the world of acting.

This aspiring actress, a former accounting student at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein, was born and bred in Wespark, Kroonstad.

Sekgapane (23) is competing with 11 other contestants for the Top Actor Africa title.

Black Entertainment Television (Bet) on channel 129 has revealed the names of talented actors and actresses who are making up the cast of Top Actor Africa, the first ever pan-African series of the channel’s dramatic reality show.

After months of auditions across the continent, Bet has identified the 12 potential heart-throb heroes and leading ladies from South, East and West Africa who will grace our TV screens in Top Actor Africa from February.

Sekgapane says the journey leading to Top Actor Africa has not been easy after many casting agencies had turned her down.

Sekgapane says she decided to halt her studies and pursue her love for acting in 2013 despite her parents’ reservations.

“My parents wanted me to have something to fall back on in case acting didn’t pan out,” she says.

Passionate and driven, Sekgapane says she has already featured in a local film called Twelve after being discovered by producer Sans Moonsamy on the show.

According to Sekgapane she is still overwhelmed and humbled by the opportunity created by Top Africa Actor and hopes to give back to the arts community by sharing her knowledge with her hometown. Inspired by renowned actress Taraji P Henson, Segapane says she wants to raise the Free State flag and hopefully inspire others like her to never give up on their dreams.
