Local teams promoted

2017-07-05 06:02

Two amateur football clubs, Botshabelo Roo Stars and Action Spar, achieved another milestone by being promoted to the third-tier division of the SAB League.

They achieved this after finishing top in the Interstate Bus Lines Promotion League promotion play-offs. The third-tier league is also played under the auspices of Safa Mangaung Metro, as with the SAB League.

Stars overcame the gutsy Bloemfontein-based Action Spar 1-0 in the final match of the promotion play-offs, staged at the Mangaung Sports Complex on Saturday (01/07).

Both Stars and Spar were among the six clubs which vied for the two available slots in the third-tier division, SAB League, which has 16 clubs.

The outfits proved too strong for their opponents, ensuring they went all the way to reach the final, with the Botshabelo lads emerging victorious over their opponents from Bloemfontein.

The other participating clubs were Junior Mates (Wepener), Morojaneng United (Dewetsdorp), City Sharks (Thaba Nchu) and Valencia (Soutpan).

For unsuccessful clubs, this means they will again compete in the Interstate Bus Lines/Safa Promotion League of the greater Mangaung Metro Municipality when the 2017-’18 season starts in September.

They will be striving to win in the league streams in their respective towns to qualify for the play-offs.
