Man jailed 8 years for killing friend

2017-07-05 06:01

The Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Motsamai Joseph Matshidiso (44) to eight years imprisonment for murdering Meshack Moeketsi Madikgetla (29).

The crime was committed on 28 June 2016 in Thaba Nchu. According to the police, the accused and the deceased had been friends.

Sgt Martin Xuma, police spokesperson, said Matshidiso had angrily knocked on the door of Madikgetla’s neighbour at around midnight, demanding money the neighbour reportedly owed him.

The two friends had apparently just arrived at Madikgetla’s home after they had been drinking at one of the local taverns.

Madikgetla tried to stop Matshidiso from making such a noise and a fight between the two ensued. The accused severely assaulted the victim with a knobkierie.

The neighbour alerted the police about the fight.

Madikgetla later died in a local hospital.
